Welcome to Hana’s page…

I am here to write another book experience.

Let’s start it…

This book was published by Harper Paperbacks. What makes me fall in love with this novel is the plot of the story about losing and meeting someone. The story is kind of complicated. It has many characters that take big parts to complete the novel.

The story is started with a woman named Julia comes to a house near a beach. It is a house of hers and her ex-husband. Her husband, Ken, died and she visits alone. She meets her new neighbour. He is Eric, a writer that used to be a doctor. Eric split up with his wife and she has a new man with her. After they know each other for a while, Julia goes back to her (true) house and does some her business stuff. An old couple visits the beach house. They are the original owner of the house before it is handed to Julia and Ken. Long story shorts, this old couple pass away at the same time. Since Julia is really close to them, Eric who finds out their decease tells Julia. Later, the meet again. Eric is falling in love with Julia, he proposed her but she is no ready yet to start the days with a new man in her life. She still loves Ken. But then, after many things happen in her life, she starts to let Eric comes to her life.

This book is telling us about ‘acceptance’ means. We could plan everything, but what happens is not always the same as we’ve been expected and planned. When it happens, we need to accept this no matter what reason. We need to accept and do everything to go on. One thing is ‘accepting doesn’t mean you lose’. You win over the things happen.

Two favourite quotes of mine:

“How could she expect anyone to understand what he’d meant to her or what it had meant for her to lose him?”

Ken was a perfect husband for Julia. They are perfect together. She is angry when someone is trying to get her a new man or introduce her. She feels like no one knows what she feels after losing Ken. But no one would know what things happen to her. She is expecting everyone to understand that no one can replace Ken in her hearth. But everyone does, she is the one who doesn’t understand. Meeting new people doesn’t mean that Julia will forget everything about Ken. That’s not the only way but it’s a way to go on.

“She didn’t feel like eating; she rarely did anymore. It was one of the ironic things about dying. For what had to be the first time in fifty years she wasn’t worried about putting on weight. Her clothes hung on her, making it difficult to pretend, even on the good days, that she wasn’t in the midst of her last journey.”

It is quoted when the grandma of the old couple is dying because of her illness. That was her last days to breathe. Her husband is always be with her, all the time. He knows he couldn’t live without her. He prepares everything before she dies and tells her that they will go together. He wants them to stay together and forever. Later, he died with her in their bedroom. And all their stuff has been cleaned, organized, and well-prepared.

End-
